Repair or Replace a Wolf Cooktop: Five Honest Cases
A dealer who is asked whether a cooktop is worth repairing is being asked to talk themselves out of a sale, which is why the answer is so often no. The answer here is decided the other way round: find out which part actually failed, find out whether it is still made, and only then compare what the repair costs with what a like-for-like unit would cost you.
Five cases cover almost everything we are called to on a cooktop or a rangetop in Los Angeles. Each one opens with a definition, sets out the two faults that look identical from standing height, and ends with the line where repairing stops making sense.
Our line is a share, not a sum: once a quoted repair passes about half of a like-for-like replacement quoted to you by a dealer, the repair has stopped being the cheaper option.
The five cases
-
Induction Zone Dead: Power Board, Coil or a New Cooktop?
An induction power board is the inverter under the glass that turns household current into the high-frequency field a pan sits in, one board usually driving more than one zone.
-
Cracked Glass on a Wolf Induction or Electric Cooktop
Cooktop glass is the glass-ceramic pane forming the whole cooking surface of a Wolf induction or electric top, carrying the pans, the printed zone markings and the touch controls while sealing what is below it from the kitchen.
-
An Older Wolf Gas Cooktop: Igniters, Valves, or Time to Move On
A burner valve is the brass body behind each knob that meters gas to one burner, turning the stem you rotate into a flame that can be held anywhere between wide open and a bare simmer.
-
Wolf Rangetop Griddle or Charbroiler That Heats Unevenly
A griddle plate is a solid slab of metal set into a rangetop and warmed from below by its own burner, so that the surface itself, rather than a pan, is what the food touches.
-
Replacing a Working Gas Cooktop with Induction in Los Angeles
An induction cooktop is a glass surface with coils beneath it that raise a magnetic field, and the pan standing in that field becomes the thing that gets hot while the surface stays comparatively cool.

One dead zone, three possible parts
Say what the cooktop is doing and which zone it is, and the meter comes out before anything gets condemned. The call-out and the diagnosis together are a flat $89, deducted the moment you approve a repair.
